Putt Putt Playoff with the Ping PLD Putter

Putt Putt Playoff with the Ping PLD Putter

TRANSCRIPT:

Nick Sherburne:

We're at Lost Mountain with aka Pro, Kyle Morris. We're going to play a little six hole match today. We got the Ping PLD putters.

Kyle Morris:

A lot of buzz. A lot of buzz on PLD.

Nick Sherburne:

Probably one of my favorite putters that came out this year, because I've known they made these things for the tour. I've seen some of the guys that come in to us that play tour, like Bryce and stuff. They have them. There's a lot of cool options. Their stock options are doing... I can't love on everything. You know me, I'm a tough love guy. I think, they're great. The milling looks awesome. They look super high end. I can't wait to stroke and see how it feels. I do wish they prettied it up a little bit. Some things like that, but I'm excited to try it.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah, me too. That's the whole thing about our business, is getting the stuff that the tour guys get. Now, you get that opportunity to get something that is identical to what they get. PuttLab Design really, really, awesome offerings. That deep mill, it's going to feel great.

Nick Sherburne:

It looks like it's going to look really good.

Kyle Morris:

Nice and aggressive. I like this actually.

Nick Sherburne:

Is this 303? I didn't look.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah. They're all stainless.

Nick Sherburne:

But no, I got the blade. You got the kind of like number nine.

Kyle Morris:

They call, the thing, the mallet. Everybody does.

Nick Sherburne:

You have a little bit of a toe hang in yours with the slanted neck. I'm going to have a little bit toe hang, but more of a plumber style.

Kyle Morris:

Not a perfect fit for me, style-wise and preference, but I like a mallet shape, so this should work out just fine.

Nick Sherburne:

Let's get this over, because I'm hungry.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah. I'm hungry.

Nick Sherburne:

Okay. Let's go.

Kyle Morris:

I made sure I...

Nick Sherburne:

Don't even...

Kyle Morris:

You almost got a hole in one immediately.

Nick Sherburne:

Wow.

Kyle Morris:

That was coming in hot.

Nick Sherburne:

Yeah. I was coming in hot. I was going to make sure I got up that hill.

Kyle Morris:

If the flag were in, it might have saved you. Are you putting with the flag in nowadays?

Nick Sherburne:

No. You know what? If it's outside of 20 or 30 feet, I'll leave it in. But anywhere else, I'm taking it out.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah. If it's convenient, I'll leave it in. But I know the science says to leave it in, but for me, I feel like the hole is smaller with a flag in there.

Nick Sherburne:

I was just about to say that. That's how I feel too, is its smaller.

Kyle Morris:

I'm such a mental midget, when it comes to putting anyway. It's like a little jabby stroke.

Nick Sherburne:

Did you stymie me?

Kyle Morris:

Almost.

Nick Sherburne:

Kind of. I'm going to leave it there just to make you think about it. My first reaction is this putter feels great.

Kyle Morris:

This thing just feels so soft.

Nick Sherburne:

It feels great.

Kyle Morris:

So soft.

Nick Sherburne:

A lot of good feedback. Some putters can feel a little too soft. This is kind of like the perfect soft. It's soft, but it has good feedback.

Kyle Morris:

You got a nice little click too. That was a long whack we made.

Nick Sherburne:

Soft, nice click.

Kyle Morris:

Shoot the summit. What do we got, a little launch pad here?

Nick Sherburne:

I'm glad they let us start on the back six here. To get ahead of the Sherburn family down there.

Kyle Morris:

They're swimming in the pond over there.

Nick Sherburne:

I got to shoot this little gap.

Kyle Morris:

There's no chance.

Nick Sherburne:

I kind of want to use an eight iron and chip this.

Kyle Morris:

We were just talking about, when we were walking up here. What if we did this same thing, but with wedges.

Nick Sherburne:

That'd be awesome.

Kyle Morris:

And tried to do it with, you know...

Nick Sherburne:

It'd be awesome.

Kyle Morris:

Closest to the hall. Might be a video coming your way. Oh, boy.

Nick Sherburne:

No. Get up there.

Kyle Morris:

Get down there. Oh, my God. You got lucky.

Nick Sherburne:

I'll take that. I'm happy with that.

Kyle Morris:

I don't feel too confident about this one.

Nick Sherburne:

You got that new Ping PLD putter.

Kyle Morris:

Get through it all. Get through it all.

Nick Sherburne:

Oh, no.

Kyle Morris:

Great job.

Nick Sherburne:

I thought it was going all the way down.

Kyle Morris:

I like how you're rolling that putter. I'm a little nervous.

Nick Sherburne:

No, I'm being a little aggressive.

Kyle Morris:

I got an uneven lie here.

Nick Sherburne:

No, no, no, no.

Kyle Morris:

Oh, got it. I do think these holes are larger.

Nick Sherburne:

I absolutely healed that sucker. I thought it wasn't going to hold and it held.

Kyle Morris:

Because of your stance or what?

Nick Sherburne:

No. I just suck.

Kyle Morris:

No blood.

Nick Sherburne:

No blood.

Kyle Morris:

I'll tell you what these turf conditions... These turf conditions are sweet though. Like the putting surfaces, I don't know if they're brand new or something.

Nick Sherburne:

They've done a great job. It's awesome.

Kyle Morris:

Mr. Troy did paint the cup though for us today, so they look great.

Nick Sherburne:

I'm going to hit a practice shot here, because I feel like the people watching, this would be a great wedge shot. Oh, didn't work.

Kyle Morris:

Wait, if this goes in...

Nick Sherburne:

Hold on. I got another one. Let's try it again.

Kyle Morris:

Head's up?

Nick Sherburne:

That didn't work out too well for me. Now, enough playing around.

Kyle Morris:

I like the style though.

Nick Sherburne:

I only want a 64 degree wedge. I want to flop one down there. That's where my brain is.

Kyle Morris:

You have to come back here with wedges.

Nick Sherburne:

And real golf balls.

Kyle Morris:

And real spin.

Nick Sherburne:

I'm going to go to the top side here, strong side. Uh-oh, I'm in trouble.

Kyle Morris:

You're in the cabbage.

Nick Sherburne:

Is that thing still rolling?

Kyle Morris:

It's tiny.

Nick Sherburne:

I'm going this way. But it goes all the way through that way. Right?

Kyle Morris:

It does go all the way through.

Nick Sherburne:

See what happens. Is it stuck?

Kyle Morris:

It's right there. We both have a lot of work to do.

Nick Sherburne:

It's an aggressive slope.

Kyle Morris:

I got some [inaudible 00:05:25] here. Get in the way.

Nick Sherburne:

Have you ever seen such athleticism here? Look at this.

Kyle Morris:

It's great.

Nick Sherburne:

That's not good. Bounce.

Kyle Morris:

Peak athleticism. That's good.

Nick Sherburne:

Peak male athleticism.

Kyle Morris:

That's good.

Nick Sherburne:

That's a three wiggle. I don't think I've got enough juice to get this thing there. I'm going to have to push it.

Kyle Morris:

That's a good idea.

Nick Sherburne:

That's allowed, right? Like a push.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah.

Nick Sherburne:

That's how my son putts.

Kyle Morris:

A lot of people do putter reviews, but not many people do a review of how the putter works when you push it.

Nick Sherburne:

Mini golf technique.

Kyle Morris:

That was good.

Nick Sherburne:

 Mini golf technique.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah.

Nick Sherburne:

Let's see how this putter feels, when I push it.

Kyle Morris:

Did you know that Colin Moore Arakawa does the same thing I do.

Nick Sherburne:

It feels buttery.

Kyle Morris:

Where he holds it conventional on long putts. And then he goes to like a claw.

Nick Sherburne:

I know he does both. He goes to like a claw on short putts.

Kyle Morris:

But you're like reverse claw. Wait. Like this?

Nick Sherburne:

Yeah. Like this.

Kyle Morris:

Kind of like this. This grip is so tiny though.

Nick Sherburne:

Ladies and gentlemen, that's a seasoned pro and club fitter. That's how he putts.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah, tries.

Nick Sherburne:

Wow. What do we got here?

Kyle Morris:

This one is technically a par three.

Nick Sherburne:

It's a par three, we got three holes. There's multiple layers to this hole.

Kyle Morris:

Match is all square.

Nick Sherburne:

I'm concerned about this.

Kyle Morris:

The match is all square. There's no blood right now.

Nick Sherburne:

I feel like it should be easy to get in that middle hole, but maybe not. Stop. Oh, no. Come on. Come back around.

Kyle Morris:

Oh, trouble.

Nick Sherburne:

Wait.

Kyle Morris:

Trouble.

Nick Sherburne:

I think that's going to take me to the second layer. I think if you get in the middle, it takes you automatically to the bottom.

Kyle Morris:

Center pit is best. You went right side. Should I try and go left side?

Nick Sherburne:

Strong side. Did he do it? Nope.

Kyle Morris:

No. It could come back.

Nick Sherburne:

We both missed our opportunity there. Failure.

Kyle Morris:

And I'm stymied too.

Nick Sherburne:

Yes.

Kyle Morris:

No, no.

Nick Sherburne:

Yes. You get a little bit of room.

Kyle Morris:

I'm going to push-scoop it, is my goal here.

Nick Sherburne:

That's fine, push-scoop.

Kyle Morris:

So if it comes out looking terribly...

Nick Sherburne:

Sorry, but if you move my ball, I don't have to move it back.

Kyle Morris:

No. Push, it's like a hockey shot.

Nick Sherburne:

Wasn't bad.

Kyle Morris:

Wasn't good.

Nick Sherburne:

You pulled it off.

Kyle Morris:

It wasn't good.

Nick Sherburne:

It wasn't good, but it wasn't bad.

Kyle Morris:

So illegal in a real game of golf. What's that movie with the dude that gets stuck in the rock? He chops off his leg.

Nick Sherburne:

It's a 100 and some hours or something.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah. That could be me.

Nick Sherburne:

Have you seen that? Look at this.

Kyle Morris:

Those rocks are going to get loose.

Nick Sherburne:

Don't.

Kyle Morris:

This is peak athleticism here.

Nick Sherburne:

No.

Kyle Morris:

Those rocks are going to tumble. Have you seen that movie though? Where the guy chops his arm off?

Nick Sherburne:

Yeah.

Kyle Morris:

And he's stymied me again. Oh, my God. That is lightning fast.

Nick Sherburne:

It is.

Kyle Morris:

Lightning fast.

Nick Sherburne:

Was that my 1, 2, 3, 4, so I'm lying, 4.

Kyle Morris:

This is going to be a record for the highest score ever known to man. Fall in there.

Nick Sherburne:

I think you lie, four, two.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah.

Nick Sherburne:

One, stop, stop, stop.

Kyle Morris:

This is a cool hole.

Nick Sherburne:

We both lie, 4. I like a blade style putter, but I usually like a long neck. But this one it's so long. I feel like it's really stable.

Kyle Morris:

So their custom program, have you looked it up?

Nick Sherburne:

Yeah.

Kyle Morris:

I don't think they can do long necks though.

Nick Sherburne:

One of the reasons why Ping is such a great partner for us, in general is their whole belief is custom fitting. They don't believe anybody should buy anything off the shelf.

Kyle Morris:

I think it's really cool. They say that you could do everything, but you can't put a long neck on them. Which is what a lot of people probably would want to do. Right?

Nick Sherburne:

If they ever got fit by me, maybe.

Kyle Morris:

The two people here would. Oh, my gosh.

Nick Sherburne:

That's a six putt.

Kyle Morris:

You make it and you go...

Nick Sherburne:

You know what's amazing about this is, we can play golf all day and not make a six. And then we go play mini golf and we make a six.

Kyle Morris:

I could six putt. Nailed it.

Nick Sherburne:

One up.

Kyle Morris:

Triple threat. It's a par two though. I think, the last one was a par six.

Nick Sherburne:

I think you got to go middle though.

Kyle Morris:

Good luck.

Nick Sherburne:

Let's see what happens.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah. You're probably right.

Nick Sherburne:

Nope.

Kyle Morris:

Got to hit harder than that.

Nick Sherburne:

Did it go in the hole or no?

Kyle Morris:

Yeah. It went in there. That's pretty good. You got it in the middle? Nope.

Nick Sherburne:

No. Let's see what happens.

Kyle Morris:

Throw another one.

Nick Sherburne:

I think, I did it again.

Kyle Morris:

Nope, backspin.

Nick Sherburne:

Is it going in?

Kyle Morris:

I think middle was the play.

Nick Sherburne:

Because I don't think you can get enough speed there.

Kyle Morris:

No, no.

Nick Sherburne:

This is nice. See that? Good scoop putter.

Kyle Morris:

This one's awesome for the scoop.

Nick Sherburne:

Lazy guy approved.

Kyle Morris:

Yes. Lazy golfer.

Nick Sherburne:

Look at the balance. Look at the balance.

Kyle Morris:

Yeah. I'm shaking like I'm on a skateboard.

Nick Sherburne:

I'd love to see you on a skateboard.

Kyle Morris:

No. I don't think I've ever actually tried. Oh, my gosh. Buzz saw. Buzz saw. I'm two down. We got one to play in the six hole match. Nothing on the five? Double or nothing.

Nick Sherburne:

It's pretty tight fairway here. I don't know what the fence does for you. I think I'll throw one into the fence.

Kyle Morris:

When Charlie and hammering Hank take a full swing and whack it near someone else.

Nick Sherburne:

That's true. That's a good point.

Kyle Morris:

Impressive. Wow.

Nick Sherburne:

It took a long time to get down there. It's quite a hole.

Kyle Morris:

Probably take longer for us to get down there though.

Nick Sherburne:

I'm just impressed. We walked and carried our own bag today. It's not something we're used to doing.

Kyle Morris:

No. Is that going to be the same as yours?

Nick Sherburne:

Yep. That way.

Kyle Morris:

The larger hole pulled it in.

Nick Sherburne:

You think so?

Kyle Morris:

It looks about the same.

Nick Sherburne:

We tied.

Kyle Morris:

Nailed it. Good match.

Nick Sherburne:

Good match, bro. It was fun. What do we think about these Ping putters?

Kyle Morris:

Love it. I love it.

Nick Sherburne:

Should we usually do this in here? Come here.

Kyle Morris:

I don't think we can both fit in there. Can we both fit in there?

Nick Sherburne:

Yeah.

Kyle Morris:

This is going to be a riot.

Nick Sherburne:

Hey Jake, come stand over here by those boots. So what do we think about these Ping putters here?

Kyle Morris:

They're a lot more comfortable feeling than right now how I'm sitting. But no, I love the feel. This is classic, high-quality craftsmanship. Right?

Nick Sherburne:

I agree.

Kyle Morris:

Stainless steel, aggressive milling, super soft, nice audible click.

Nick Sherburne:

Scotty, Bettinardi, all them make great putters. Ping's never got a love for their high end putters. This competes with every high putter out there, in my opinion. It felt great. It looked good. They got some nice options. You can do a lot of custom work like we've talked about. But we've really had a lot of fun here at Lost Mountain playing six holes. Got to beat the pro. Always fun for me to do with these Ping putters. If you have any questions on the Ping putters, please leave them in the comments below.
